Alaska Gold Panning - Gold panning is provided at comfortable, stand-up troughs. The pay-dirt is
taken directly from our mining operation, so any size nugget is possible and yours to keep. You can pan for 4 hours for $10; pans and lessons provided
at no extra charge!! And we offer gold panning on various area claims
for $20/day and can provide transportation.
Recreational Gold Mining - Relive the Alaska gold rush era: mine in along a creek amid the diggings of old prospectors from the late 1800s.
Besides the gold panning in the campground, we offer modern Alaska gold rush experiences with gold pans,
metal detectors, hand sluices, high bankers or small suction dredges on our nearby claims on Myers Fork Creek, Lost Chicken Creek, the South Fork River
and the Mosquito Fork River.
Music - The annual "Chickenstock" music festival is held the 2nd week of June - see our
Chickenstock facebook page for more information).
Other impromptu gatherings are held on the Outpost deck in the evenings.
Kayaking - Experience the Fortymile River from a kayak. The Outpost rents Perception
kayaks, which turn very quickly and easily and have good tracking as well as being quite stable
for beginner use. We provide different length trips starting with a peaceful 2-hour float of the
Mosquito Fork and upper South Fork, where you will pass the old Lost Chicken dredge. Rentals start at $40 for ½ day.
We also provide a shuttle service for an additional fee.
Day Trips - A day trip from Chicken, Alaska to Eagle, Alaska is a great adventure with the opportunity to see the mighty
Yukon River, enjoy magnificent scenery, view wildlife and experience life in a remote Alaskan village. Or take a drive over
the "Top of the World" to Dawson City and back offers many more opportunities.
If you don't want to haul your 5th wheel or drive your motorhome, you can leave it in the RV park/campground for the return trip.
Other - Local hiking trails and ATV trails provide access to historical sites, wildlife
viewing opportunities and spectacular vistas, more gold prospecting and great caribou or moose hunting. Fishing is accessible nearby (license required).
